Habitat: On S-facing slope in inland sage scrub with Salvia apiana and Eriogonum fasciculatum.
Description: Monocarpic perennial with crowded rosette of linear-lanceolate, green to slightly glaucous leaves with needle-like apical point. Inflorescence a stout panicle to 3 m tall, ca. 25-50 mm in diameter at base. Fruit a somewhat woody, septicidal capsule. Seeds thin, black. Many of the capsules contained a small portion of seeds cemented together and hollowed out inside by the reddish-green larvae of Tegeticula maculata. Larvae were ca. 10-15 mm long. Locally common. Voucher for seed collection. Note: Leaves on fruiting plants were dead. This leaf from nearby, non-flowering individual.
