Habitat: Rocky, bouldery area in coastal sage scrub.
Description: Plants perennial, loose clumping, to 120 cm at inflorescence tips. Stem nodes slightly swollen, purplish tan, to 5-6 mm wide. Leaf blades +-15-20 cm, flat, 6 mm wide. Glumes purplish-tan; sterile lemma thin-hairy on outer side, upper side smooth. Flowering and fruiting.
