Leaf thick and leathery (thicker than Malosma, similar to Rhus); blade averaging 8-11 cm x 4-5 cm, narrow ovate to elliptical-oblong, slightly tapering to distal end; petiole 3-4 cm; tip mostly acute, some obtuse; base rounded; blade somewhat wavy, but relatively flat and not folded; glossy green adaxially, lighter and duller abaxially; entire, margins smooth. Newest foliage bronze-red. Stems reddish. Old flower inflorescences resembling Malosma; well branched, thin pedicels, not stout (like Rhus), dried, but present on plant (from summer bloom?). Odd possible hybrid, although the bloom periods are distinct and compatibility unknown and unreported(?).
