I believe this should be P. l. subspecies ferocula, not variety ferocula.

Hi, Ron. We have gone back and forth on this. Matt Guilliams used var. in his 2013 publication, and I have that on my website: http://www.sci.sdsu.edu/plants/pectocarya/taxa/P_linearis/v_ferocula But, in our recent Jepson eFlora submission, Matt/we just kept the subsp. rank, as that was what was there already. Both names are valid, var. having been published first. I'll query Matt. We just need to make a decision and stick to it, and get that on the Jepson eFlora. It's a moot point, but need to be consistent. (I don't like this situation, as I consider the two essentially the same.) Best, Mike P.s. Let me know if you get or see this! I don't know if you get a notification.
