Habitat: Growing at base of north-facing slope. Oak woodland.
Substrate: Organic-rich loam, with cover of leaf duff.
individual.ASSOCIATED_TAXA: Quercus agrifolia, Heteromeles arbutifolia, Hesperoyucca whipplei, Quercus berberidifolia, Malosma laurina, Cercocarpus betuloides.
Description: Shrub, ca. 2 meters tall with 3 stems at base, <2 cm in diameter, sparingly branched above; bark of young twigs exfoliating. Ovary surface and hypanthium pink, sepals and petals pink abaxially, whitish adaxially, sepals divergent, petals erect, anthers and pollen yellowish.
Notes: Not common. Only two individuals seen in immediate area. Note glabrous style.
