Habitat: About 30 ft. north of hiking trail; packed sandy-loam soil. Slope ca. 25 degrees; facing north; exposed to partly shaded by surrounding plant. Open scrub to grassland codominated by Artemisia californica, Salvia apiana, and Nassella pulchra.
Description: Perennial herb < 2 ft., branched, growing in the center of various miscellaneous plants. Stems brittle. Flowers red-orange to bright orange; stigma green, globular, exserted.
